The thought of accomplishing my dreams and aspirations while overcoming the obstacles involved with being a single parent is somewhat overwhelming. Although, I consider myself to be positive and ambitious, I am human and at times I get discouraged. Then reality sets in and I realize that I have three little people looking up to me and depending on me 100 percent.

Failing and giving up on my dreams isn't an option. I would cringe at the thought of my kids facing obstacles later in life and using the excuse that mommy gave up so why can't I?

A few years ago I wrote a five-year plan and in that plan one of my visions was to learn as much as I can about children and open a daycare spa that catered to children's emotional and physical needs. The daycare spa would compare to a vacation getaway to free their minds of stresses involved with being a child and also help them find positive outlets to deal with frustration.

Children are not of a carbon copy and they all think on different levels and need to be handled differently. The daycare spa would be designed to cater to their dreams by allowing them to experience a mocking of their dreams for a day and educate them on the positives aspects of life and how important it is to never give up on their dreams.

I recently joined a great organization called "MY DAUGHTER'S KEEPER" and became a part of their Project Single Moms movement. My Daughter's Keeper is dedicated to inspiring, motivating, and supporting single mothers such as myself and they informed me of this once in-a-lifetime opportunity and I was more than happy to commit to giving my all to accomplish my goal of obtaining a degree.

Given the opportunity to obtain a degree in early childhood education from Penn Foster College would contribute to the knowledge and training I need to move forward with my goals. I would also be more qualified to work with children by understanding the balanced involved in the child development process.

The greatest part about this opportunity is that I would be able to get my degree from the comfort of my own home and at my own pace. Being a single mother of three makes having to leave home and go to school almost impossible. I can learn everything I need to learn without the hassle of trying to arrange daycare (another expense) for my children.

This opportunity is perfect for me and I am dedicated to giving 100 percent of myself to accomplishing my goals and reaching for the sky to become the positive role model to my children and others around me.

About Victoria

Hello. I was born and raised in Indiana, and am the youngest of four children. When I was growing up, I had to help my oldest sister a lot because she is a person with disabilities. We got really close, and she taught me a lot about women's history, and how to take pride in being a strong woman. After high school, I enrolled at Smith, a small liberal arts women's college. At my school, I studied alongside non-traditional students, who taught me things that weren't in our lectures. The non-traditional students were women 25+. They were mothers, wives, divorcees, widows, sisters, aunts, nieces. Our oldest graduate earned her degree at age 83! Today, I am a New Jerseyan working at eLearners.com, helping build a website that is dedicated to non-traditional students enrolling in online degree programs.
