Renee Sellers
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to you to express my interest in consideration for your online university scholarship. I hold an Associates degree from Delaware County Community College. At the time, I could not afford to attend the traditional four year universities in my area, therefore I paid for my education out of my own pocket while working two jobs and planning my wedding. This was six years ago.
Currently I work in a dynamic environment filled with professionals who have higher education levels than me. I am inspired by their achievements yet at the same time, envious. I am also a mother of a two and a half-year old son. I had hoped to complete my bachelor's degree before he was born; that was not the case.
For the past two years and six months, I have thought about completing this personal goal. Due to my current obligations and responsibilities, and without the aid of financial assistance, I thought it would not be possible. However, after receiving an advertisement from EarnMyDegree.com, now I am motivated and inspired; somewhat in part to my fellow colleagues success, but largely in part to my son, Terence. I hold the value of education highly and when Terence is old enough to understand, I will preach to him that a college degree is necessary in today's world to achieve success.
Unlike single mothers, I am fortunate to have a spouse/significant other who supports my dream. He has a higher level of education than me. He says we are equals in our relationship, though I personally do not feel the same. My parents never finished their college educations. I am the oldest of three children and we did not grow up with the finer things life had to offer. If we wanted to go to college, we had to pay for it ourselves or hope for scholarship opportunities to come our way. My parents both worked very hard to provide us with the essential basics needed in life to survive. I have seem them struggle and I do not want to be in that unfortunate position.
I am seeking to broaden my education in hopes of furthering my career at Siemens Medical Solutions, USA. In such a large organization, I feel its easy to get lost. And in todays bumpy economy, one can never know if ones position is sustainable. As an Administrative Assistant at Siemens, I provide functional and technical support to my Vice President and his team. I am frequently called upon to provide answers. If I want to keep my technical knowledge up to date, I feel as though I need to go back to school and complete my education. Achieving my Bachelor's degree would do just that for me.
Prior to joining Siemens, I worked for over 10 years in the field of Healthcare in various areas of responsibility such as Receptionists and Administrative Assistants. I worked with many different management levels and I hope to be at that level in the near future.
I think you will find that my combination of practical work experience over my entire career and my educational background make me an excellent candidate for this scholarship opportunity.
Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to this opportunity.
