I met my hubby in college 28 years ago. He graduated and I transferred to a new college in Florida. He had trouble finding a job and joined the military. I thought that I would just finish my degree and join him later but the power of a lonely heart made me place my education on hold.

I married him and joined him on his travels. We relocated every one to two years with his job and my job became mom. We had three beautiful boys and adopted a sweet little girl. Two of my boys were on the Autism Spectrum so my life evolved around juggling the demands of parenthood accompanied by the numerous changes brought to us through the military.

Change is never easy for a child let alone children with Asperger's Syndrome so I became their steady fixture. As my children grew older and became more successful, I felt less needed in their lives. I took a CNA course and found that I loved working with the elderly and the disabled.

I would like to further my career by attending more school in that field, however we have two boys in college right now and another on the brink of it, so financially, I feel obligated to hold off once more. A scholarship would be my "Go back to school pass" that I always promised myself.

Thank you.

About Victoria

Hello. I was born and raised in Indiana, and am the youngest of four children. When I was growing up, I had to help my oldest sister a lot because she is a person with disabilities. We got really close, and she taught me a lot about women's history, and how to take pride in being a strong woman. After high school, I enrolled at Smith, a small liberal arts women's college. At my school, I studied alongside non-traditional students, who taught me things that weren't in our lectures. The non-traditional students were women 25+. They were mothers, wives, divorcees, widows, sisters, aunts, nieces. Our oldest graduate earned her degree at age 83! Today, I am a New Jerseyan working at eLearners.com, helping build a website that is dedicated to non-traditional students enrolling in online degree programs.
