Joshua Swearingen
My name is Joshua Swearingen and I would like to continue my education, but have found myself without the time and means to pursue it. I have some college credit in management and computer technology at a local technical college. I was not able to finish my degree before finicial demands required I enter the work force full-time. I used what education I had and a willingness to learn and apply myself to get to the position I am in today as a quality manager for AQS (Catapillar's contractual quality department), however, my pay still does not comver the monthly expenses enough for a family and school to coexist.
My son was born December 9, 2009. I would like a chance to get an education and start a new career while he is still young so that I will be able to provide him with a better future.
I have chosen criminal justice becuase I was always interested in the field. I also feel as though my management and computer skills that I utilize in my current occupation will be an asset to me in entering this new course of study. Another reason in choosing this course is that I believe it is one that may well be recession proof. There will always be a need for these legal services. For the last 6 months I have regularly received updates as to which of our facilities are experiencing layoffs. I believe it is only a matter of time until I find myself unemployed and without and official education I may find myself working for half as much with twice the responsiblilites. Money is tight as it is. I don't know how we will survive.
About Victoria
Hello. I was born and raised in Indiana, and am the youngest of four children. When I was growing up, I had to help my oldest sister a lot because she is a person with disabilities. We got really close, and she taught me a lot about women's history, and how to take pride in being a strong woman. After high school, I enrolled at Smith, a small liberal arts women's college. At my school, I studied alongside non-traditional students, who taught me things that weren't in our lectures. The non-traditional students were women 25+. They were mothers, wives, divorcees, widows, sisters, aunts, nieces. Our oldest graduate earned her degree at age 83! Today, I am a New Jerseyan working at eLearners.com, helping build a website that is dedicated to non-traditional students enrolling in online degree programs.
