Putting Education to Work

Many moms are challenged by the return to school efforts.  Not only do we have to allow time for work and studying, but we also have to continue to maintain the house. For me my school nights are monday and wednesday. I am crock-pot crazy and feel guilty if I do not prepare dinner in advance for my family. 

Gotta work on that guilt trip.  Save your $$ and your mind for a real trip!  My kids are enlisted to start dinner before I get home from work, and hubby is very good at helping kids with homework and chores.

That is the problem that I am having with trying to complete my education, I work full time, I am a mother of 2 and I am a wife.  I figure I would work on one degree at a time starting with my associates degree, it requires 62 credits and so far I only have 18.  I feel like at this rate I will be at least 55 before I have my BA degree.  I am prusing a degree in Elementary education and I feel really good about this, but at the same time I feel like it is a losing fight for me. [:'(]  I wish I could find a online school where I can take at least 2 or 3 classess at one time in the convience of my home at my pace without feeling like I have neglected my family.  UGH!!!!!!!!

You are all a real inspiration. My mother never allowed herself to go back to school because my father was so unsupportive (emotionally). She's close to 60-years-old now, and still thinking about earning her G.E.D. I wish I could have convinced her that it was okay to go back to school, even if it meant I had to step up and do more chores.

It would have been worth it to see her with more confidence growing up. Even today, I hope my mom will get her G.E.D.! Please, moms, don't feel guilty. Your children want to see you happy and proud; at least, I want to see my mom that way!

I am new to this forum. I saw your post about pursuing your degree. My teaching assistant is pursuing a Bachelor's degree in education (special education) online through University of West FL. You do the entire program online, I assume except your internship. You may want to check them out. Also, I got my master's online with Grand Canyon University in 2 years. I took one class every 8 weeks, but you can do more if you decide. Just some suggestions. Good Luck,

You are right in saying an online education is hard. I am a 40 yr old single mom, with 4 kids, oldest is 21 and out of house, but I still have 3 girls, 20, 18 & 15 still at home. I devoted my life to raising my children and now feel it is finally time for me to do something for myself. I go to college online. It can be challenging with 3 young women in my home, but I have managed to keep a 98% and a 99% in the 2 classes I have taken so far. I love it though. Financial aid is an issue only in that I can only take 8 credits per semester. I can't afford to pay above and beyond that right now. I don't feel guilty when I am engrossed in school assignmemnts. I tell my girls, it's ok if they cook dinner a couple nights during the week. They are certainly old enough now!
