Spurred by personal tragedy, Chris, a now-single mother of two from
Oklahoma perservered by immersing herself in her education to finish a
bachelor's degree.
Currently employed as a writer and
editor at a local university, she initially began her college career
after graduating high school in 1969. While trying to keep both a full-
and part-time job, Chris only managed to finish a handful of classes.
She ended up withdrawing before finshing her degree, got married, and
had two children, a son and a daughter.
“I really didn't know what I wanted to do back then,” says Chris, 56, who then began her online education in 2002.
Her
husband passed away before she earned her bachelor's degree in 2005
from the College of Liberal Studies at University of Oklahoma. In spite
of everything she and her family had been through, the following year,
Chris decided to continue her educational pursuits and returned to
begin a master's program in adult and higher education. She expects to
complete her graduate studies in about two years. Currently, she is
simply relishing the distance learning experience.
